Digital Desk: Anand Sarma, the victim of the ragging incident that has shaken Dibrugarh University, successfully underwent surgery on Thursday, said the hospital authority.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Dr. Pannalal. The surgery was conducted to fix his fractured backbone after he jumped from the second floor of his hostel to avoid ragging by seniors.
Reportedly, the long procedure began at 10 a.m. today and was successfully completed.
It should be noted that a high-level committee was established following the tragic ragging incident that happened at Dibrugarh University on November 27.
This comes after a student at Dibrugarh University's Padmanath Gohain Baruah Hostel jumped from the second floor after being assaulted by senior-year students in the name of ragging.
The committee must provide a report within three days. Reportedly, it will be chaired by retired Sibsagar Commerce College Principal Kartik Chandra Dutta.
The committee consists of five members: a retired professor of Dibrugarh University, Dr. Pradip Kumar Baruah, a retired professor of Kakojan College, Dr. Deepak Kumar Sharma, retired Dibrugarh University executive member, Bijoy Krishna Pasoni, alongside Dr. Bhajel Sonowal as the coordinator.
Anand Sarma, a junior-year student at Dibrugarh University, jumped from the second floor of the hostel to escape a brutal assault by seniors in the name of ragging, severely injuring himself.
He was rushed to the hospital, where he is still fighting for his life and is under observation.
Along with Anand Sarma, there were two other juniors who were reportedly victims of ragging. Following the incident, the victim's family filed a report, and the accused was then taken into custody.
