Desk: Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister of
Maharashtra, met with Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh about the safety of
students trapped in the violence-hit state and urged him to provide them with
security until the situation stabilizes.
Fadnavis also addressed
the state's students stranded in Manipur, assuring them of full support. This
comes amid violence in Manipur, which erupted on May 3 during a 'Tribal
Solidarity March' called by the All Tribal Student Union Manipur (ATSUM) in
Torbung area of Churachandpur district to protest the demand for Scheduled
Tribe (SC) status by non-tribal Meiteis, who are dominant in the Imphal Valley.
According to an official statement from the Deputy Chief
Minister's Office, some students from Maharashtra are continuing their studies
at the NIT Manipur and have been stranded due to the state's deteriorating
scenario.
According to sources, the Chief Secretary of Maharashtra phoned
the Director General of Police in Manipur and demanded quick assistance.
"Devendra Fadnavis also contacted the Manipur government and
requested that these students be kept safe until the situation
normalizes," according to the statement.
"Immediate
arrangements are being made by the Maharashtra government to bring these
students safely to Maharashtra," the statement continued.
Meanwhile,
the Indian Army and the Assam Rifles have provided a ray of hope to the
war-torn Churachandpur district. For the past 96 hours, the joint forces have
worked relentlessly to evacuate citizens from all communities, quell
violence, and restore normalcy in the area. Because of their tireless
efforts, no serious violence has been reported as of yet. As a result, the
curfew in Churachandpur has been loosened from 7 to 10 a.m. on Sunday, followed
by a flag march by Security Forces.
