Digital Desk: A renowned folklorist and educationist Dr. Bhabendra Nath Dutta passed away on Monday morning at the age of 90.
Sources claim that Dutta passed away this morning at 7 a.m. in the Dispur Polyclinic Hospital, where he had been undergoing treatment since October 19.
His remains have been taken to his Silpukhuri home, and his final rites will be performed in Navagraha cemetery at 2:00 p.m.
Meanwhile, Dutta’s son, Dr. Uddalak Dutta who is a business firm owner in Delhi, and two daughters, Dr Sudeshna Choudhury and Dr Upasana Dutta (Professor at a college in Murshidabad) arrived after receiving information about their father’s demise.
Dr. Dutta, who was born in 1933, received his Ph.D. from Gauhati University in 1974 for his thesis, "A Study of the Folk Culture of the Goalpara District of Assam."
Dr Dutta is a recipient of several prestigious awards including Padma Shri Award (2009), the Mahapurush Shri Shri Madhavadeva Award (2006), the Ajan Pir Award (2008), the Leo Advertising Silpi Sanman (2010), the Manik Chandra Chowdhury Memorial Award (2011), and the Tagore Ratna Award of the Sangeet Natak Akademi (2011).
Additionally, from 2003 to 2005, the educationist also served as the president of Asam Sahitya Sabha.
