Digital Desk: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma refuted media reports of a rise in energy costs, calling them fake and asserting that current tariff rates for up to 300 units had not changed.

However, additional electricity charges of 0.20 paise will be charged above 300 upto 500 units. Similarly, consumers (mostly government offices) consuming more than 500 units of energy will be charged Rs 0.99 paise per unit.

According to the recent Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) notification, commercial and other industrial consumers will be charged Rs 0.59 paise per unit.

Interestingly, for smart pre-paid customers, the applicable Fuel and Power Purchase Price (FPPPA) against energy consumption in September 2023 will be charged in 92 days as daily installments (October 1 to December 31, 2023).

The FPPPA will be made applicable to conventional prepaid customers on a prospective basis.

The notification further noted that any adjustment for short/excess recovery due to seasonal variations in consumption within the defined time shall be made in subsequent periods or as instructed by the competent authority.

It should be noted that the APDCL had issued a notification saying that consumers would be charged 30 paise per unit for use up to 300 units.

Consumption between 301 and 500 units, on the other hand, will witness a 50-paise hike per unit, while consumption over 500 units will see a Rs 1.29 per unit increase.
