    The first underwater tunnel in Assam will be built soon, says CM Himanta Sarma

    Digital Desk: Assam will get its first underwater tunnel between Gohpur and Numaligarh for Rs 6,000 crore, as announced by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday.


    "We have planned to build an underwater tunnel between Gohpur and Numaligarh through the Brahmaputra," he remarked at a public occasion. The tunnel is expected to cost roughly Rs 6,000 crores."


    According to the Chief Minister, the tunnel would include rail and vehicular access.


    "When completed, the tunnel will connect the north and south banks of the Brahmaputra River," he continued.

    According to Sarma, the tunnel's construction will begin in the first week of July.


    "I once dreamed of building such an underwater tunnel in Assam, but I couldn't decide whether it was feasible or not. However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has now given the go-ahead to construct the tunnel," the Chief Minister stated.


    In addition, he stated that Gohpur and Numaligarh were chosen as the finest locations to construct the undersea tunnel by the state administration.


    Assam CM stated that the first tender would go out on July 4, 2023. Additionally, he also added that if everything goes according to plan, building on this project will begin during his term following the compilation of the DIPR for land selection.


    It's important to note that PM Modi has already given his approval for the project to connect the Brahmaputra's north and south to bring it closer.
