Former BJP veteran Rajen Gohain to meet Amit Shah, amid delimitation row

Digital Desk: Rajen Gohain, former BJP leader, is scheduled to meet the union home minister Amit Shah on Monday.

In a move to protest the delimitation of the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency in Assam, the veteran BJP leader tendered his resignation from the cabinet rank.

According to sources, Gohain would inform him of his "grievances and objections" about the delimitation procedure.

Meanwhile, he has denied allegations that he was called by Amit Shah.

Rajen Gohain, the chairman of the Assam Food and Civil Supplies Corporation Limited, announced his resignation from his position on August 18 in response to his displeasure with the most recent delimitation procedure.

Gohain stated clearly in his letter that the delimitation procedure had made the 10-Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency unwinnable for a BJP candidate in the future and had also put the Nagaon people in danger due to the demographic change.

While resigning from the cabinet rank, Gohain stated “The Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency has been handed over to the other party. Only stating that we do not need the votes of the Miya community is not enough. On several occasions, I expressed my dissatisfaction with the Nagaon Lok Sabha seat and informed the chief minister about the same but to no avail. He only says that he will preserve the culture of the Assamese community and Hindutva but doesn’t show in action.”
