Fresh violence erupts in Manipur's Bishnupur, houses set on fire

Talking about the firing, one of the locals said, "The gunfight has been going on since last night. We didn't sleep all night and didn't eat anything either."

Digital Desk: On Thursday morning, fresh firing was reported in the Bishnupur district of Manipur after a conflict between two communities broke out in Bishnupur's Moirang. The residents said that Wednesday night's gunfire was also heard.

During the violence, several residences apparently caught fire. Many of the nearby residents took their shelter elsewhere after the shooting started.

Talking about the firing, one of the locals said, "The gunfight has been going on since last night. We didn't sleep all night and didn't eat anything either."

According to another, the ongoing gunfight left all the residents terrified.
One of the villagers spoke on the shooting by saying, "The gunfight has been going on since last night. The entire night, neither of us slept nor ate anything."

In the Kangpokpi district of Manipur, two security force buses carrying troops were earlier set on fire by a mob, according to officials.

However, there were no casualties reported. On Tuesday night while the buses were leaving for Dimapur, the incident happened in Sapormeina.
Nearly three months ago, ethnic conflict erupted in the northeastern state, resulting in the deaths of over 160 people and the injuries of hundreds.

On May 3, after the hill districts held a "Tribal Solidarity March" to protest the Meitei community's desire for Scheduled Tribe (ST) classification, violence broke out.

Meiteis make up around 53% of Manipur's population and reside primarily in the Imphal Valley, while tribal people, who include Nagas and Kukis, make up 40%, mainly living in the hill regions.
