    Government dismisses ACS officer Nandita Konwar from service for bribery case
    Digital Desk: The Assam Civil Service (ACS) officer Nandita Konwar has been dismissed from her service by the Assam government for her involvement in taking bribery. 

    The officer served as the Project Director of the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) of Kamrup (metro) district. During her tenure, she had demanded a bribe to release payment of the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) fund. The funding which were supposed to be released were meant for development works. 

    The vigilance and anti-corruption bureau of Assam police in 2015 had arrested ACS officer Nandita Konwar for allegedly taking a bribe from a member of an NGO. She was caught red-handed while accepting a fix.

    ACS officer Nandita Konwar has made the headlines numerous times for her bribery cases. Last year, a special court in Guwahati convicted her of four years imprisonment in a bribery case.

    After her arrest, her case was heard by a special court in Assam. The court, after several hearings, passed an order for her conviction. Accordingly, Nandita Konwar, under order dated 8.4.2021 in Special Case No. 22/2017 under sections 7/13 (2) of PC Act, 1988, was sentenced to four years and a penalty of Rs 20,000 in default rigid confinement for two months under Section 13 (2) PC Act, 1988. 

    As per the latest sources, the Assam government, with the approval from Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has dismissed her from service. 

    Nandita Konwar is the daughter of former Assam Congress minister and ex-governor of Bihar and Tripura Devananda Konwar.
