Digital Desk: The entire city of Guwahati was inundated with heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lighting, for two days but the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday predicted that the city is likely to see thundershowers on October 2 and 3.

A yellow alert was issued for the city by the Regional Meteorological Centre in Guwahati, which stated that "One or two spells of light to moderate thundershowers (1-2cm/hr) is very likely over part of Guwahati city."

The impacts of the thundershowers are expected to be as follows:

    • When there is a heavy downpour, visibility may become poor.
    • Some low-lying regions may experience waterlogging.
    • Temporary traffic snarls caused by waterlogging on roadways
    • In open areas, lightning may harm people and livestock.

The following suggestions are made to ensure the safety of city residents:

    • Follow any traffic warnings
    • When there is a thunderstorm or lightning, seek shelter.
    • Be updated

It should be noted that earlier on September 30, the city witnessed heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning, which caused artificial flooding in several locations.

Ahead of the ICC World Cup, a warm-up match between India and England was scheduled for that day at Barsapara Stadium, however, it had to be cancelled due to the heavy rainfall.
