Digital Desk: In the midst of a huge controversy over paper leaks, the Controller of Examinations of the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA), Nayan Jyoti Sarma, assured the people on Friday that the results of the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examinations would be announced in May.
Sarma told media, "The HSLC results will be announced in May itself, but there may be an unavoidable delay of 8-10 days."
He added that the paper leak incident was nothing short of tragic.
"It is extremely unfortunate that the paper leak episode occurred. No SEBA official has been detained so far in association with the case. In order to help the students who are struggling as a result of the unfortunate incident, we are committed to working day and night," he said.
SEBA stated earlier today that the examination of all MIL/English (IL) subjects in the ongoing High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) Class 10 examinations will take place on April 1, 2023.
This follows orders from Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma last night to reschedule the exams due to reports of a potential question paper leak.
The exams were previously scheduled for March 18. However, during the interrogation, one of the suspects who had previously been arrested for his part in leaking the General Science question paper confessed to officials about leaking the Assamese language paper as well.
As a result, Assam CM Sarma directed SEBA to reschedule the examinations. SEBA has now announced a new date for all MIL/English (IL) subjects to be held on April 1.
The suspected mastermind of the HSLC paper leak was apprehended in Lakhimpur district last night.
Pranab Dutta, the principal of Luit Kaboli High School, Lakhimpur and also the supervisor during the test, has been named as the alleged mastermind.
Another teacher, Kumud Rajkhowa, was also detained in connection with the case.
In addition, two other people from Gogamukh were detained for interrogation.
According to police, a total of 31 people have been detained in relation with the case, with 27 of them being arrested. Twelve juveniles were also detained.
Gyanendra Pratap Singh, the Director General of Police (DGP) of Assam, stated that the probe into the HSLC question paper leak incident is moving quickly.
"The CID is aggressively pursuing all leads in the HSLC paper leak case. Our probe is moving quickly. We're all working together as a team to figure out who's behind it," he said.
