HSLC Paper Leak Case: 'Why Should I Resign' says Assam Education Minister, Ranoj Pegu

Digital Desk: Ranoj Pegu, the Education Minister for Assam, has refused to quit in light of the recent High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) paper leak scandal.

Speaking to the media, the minister claimed that the opposition was instigating the situation and that neither his departure nor that of the SEBA Chairperson RC Jain would resolve the matter.

Pegu urged parents to be wary of unreliable information on social media and mentioned the recent arrest of teachers who were involved in the scam. He stressed the need for changes in the attitudes of teachers implicated in such frauds and noted that appropriate steps need to be taken to stop teachers from having access to the exam's question papers beforehand.

The HSLC paper leak incident was exposed earlier this month, leading to the imprisonment of several individuals, including professors and students. Three teachers who were involved in the deception were suspended after the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) launched a detailed probe into the matter.

Ranoj Pegu added that the authorities had found the individual behind the bogus Geography exam paper's distribution, which had gained widespread attention on social media.

The statement from the education minister is made in response to increasing pressure from numerous organisations calling for his resignation.

Pegu claimed, however, that the opposition is politicising the situation and attempting to draw attention away from the underlying issue. Pegu urged students not to be lured by misleading propaganda and to continue their preparation for the HSLC exams.
