IIT Guwahati student found dead in hostel room due to alcohol overdose

Digital Desk: In a shocking incident, a student from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati allegedly died due alcohol overdose at the Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) on Monday. 

The tragedy unfolded after a New Year's Eve celebration with friends in Guwahati's Paltan Bazar area.

According to reports, the girl have been identified as Aishwara. The victim along with three companions, had been partying at a local pub on December 31, 2023. The group later booked a hotel room in the same area while still under the influence. 

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Central Police District, Amitabh Basumatary, revealed that after a night of revelry, Aishwara experienced breathing difficulties the next morning. Concerned friends rushed her to GMCH for medical attention, but she was declared dead by resident physicians.

As part of the routine procedure, the deceased's body underwent a post-mortem examination, with Paltan Bazar police awaiting the official autopsy results. 

"Family members of the deceased IIT-G student have not yet filed a case. The girl is originally from Telangana," DCP Basumatary explained.

Notably, no individuals have been detained in connection with the tragic incident so far.

This unfortunate incident raises concerns about the consequences of excessive alcohol consumption during celebrations, emphasizing the need for responsible partying and awareness of the potential risks involved.
