IMD predicts heavy rainfall alert over parts of Assam and Meghalaya

Digital Desk: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a thunderstorm warning for Saturday, accompanied by lightning and heavy rainfall in several areas across Assam and Meghalaya. Regions expected to be affected include Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Dhubri, Goalpara, Kamrup, Kamrup Metropolitan, Kokrajhar, and Nalbari.

According to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Guwahati, the day will see cloudy skies with intermittent spells of rain and thundershowers. Citizens are advised to stay cautious as these conditions may lead to localized flooding and disruptions.

Additionally, the IMD has forecasted very heavy rainfall for Meghalaya on June 29 and subsequent days. This prediction is attributed to a cyclonic circulation over east Assam and neighboring areas, extending up to 3.1 km above mean sea level. Similarly, a low-pressure area has formed over the Northwest Bay of Bengal off the north Odisha coast, intensifying weather patterns across the region.

Residents are urged to stay updated with local weather advisories and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during adverse weather conditions.
