Anurag Chaliha's custody has been extended by a duration of seven days...
Digital Desk: Anurag Chaliha, the main suspect in the murder of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Assam's Kisan Morcha Secretary Indrani Tahbildar, was granted an extension to his police custody on Wednesday.
According to initial reports, Anurag Chaliha's custody has been extended by a duration of seven days.
Anurag Chaliha, the main accused, was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court earlier in the day. The court allowed Chandmari Police's request for an extension of his custody by another seven days, which they had sought.
Anurag Chaliha was returned right away to Chandmari Police Station by officers by the court's directive.
It should be mentioned that the custody of Anurag Chaliha had previously been granted by the court to the police for seven days, which was extended during today's hearing.
Anurag went into hiding after Indrani Tahbildar took drastic action, but on August 14 he was caught by Demow in Sivasagar.
He has been charged with stealing millions of rupees from people applying for jobs in the state government.
On Tuesday, the Chandmari Police conducted an operation at the residence of Indrani Tahbildar, where he was staying as a tenant, and discovered information about the applicants who had paid money in exchange for government jobs as well as recovered evidence supporting cash-for-job scams.
Police have also called BJP leader Mriganka Barman, who was directed to appear today at Chandmari Police Station.
