Digital Desk: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced today that two prominent Congress Party working presidents, Rana Goswami and Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha, have joined the Assam BJP, marking a turning point for the party. Speaking to the media, Sarma emphasized the significance of these defections and hinted that there may be more in the coming days.

Former All India Congress Committee secretary Rana Goswami, who is well-known for his strong ties to Priyanka Gandhi's UP team, has tendered his resignation from the Congress Party to join the BJP. Meanwhile, the Congress Party's other working president, Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha, has vowed to fully support the BJP-led government both inside and outside the Assembly.

"These two defections are very, very important for us," stated CM Sarma expressing confidence in the growing strength of the BJP in Assam.

It is anticipated that the parliamentary board of the Assam BJP will discuss these events shortly and clarify the duties and obligations of the recently recruited members. Chief Minister Sarma made hints about decisions to come, saying that talks with counterparts in the state leadership of Manipur, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh were in progress.

In light of current political developments, Sarma said that Rahul Gandhi's visit to Assam at a delicate moment had greatly aided the BJP. He proposed that the Congress's standing in Assam had declined as a result of Gandhi's attendance at the Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha ceremony.

With the announcement of the biggest private investment in the Northeast, attention also turned to economic development amid political disputes. The formal opening of a semiconductor plant in Jagiroad, valued at Rs 27,000 crore, was a significant milestone for the economic development of Assam. Credit for bringing this historic investment to fruition went to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union MoS Rajeev Chandrasekhar, and notable members of the Tata Group.

"I thank them for believing in Assam's potential," said CM stating the significance of this investment in propelling Assam's industrial development.
