Digital Desk: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Thursday that the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) an ally of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state will be given the Kokrajhar seat, while Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), another BJP ally will contest the Dhubri and Barpeta seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The chief minister of Assam stated that the saffron party would run for 11 of the state's 14 seats during a press conference held today at the BJP headquarters in Guwahati.

He continued by projecting confidence that the BJP will win each of the 11 seats it will contest for.

According to Chief Minister Sarma, the AGP has requested to run for four seats: Kaziranga, Barpeta, Dhubri, and Karimganj. They were given Barpeta and Dhubri out of these.

According to Himanta Biswa Sarma, the BJP has selected its final list of candidates based only on their qualifications.

The chief minister of Assam continued by stating that several additional Congress leaders will be joining the BJP in the next few days. This came after Rana Goswami joined the party formally in his presence.
Rana Goswami, the Assam Congress's former working president, joined the BJP in Guwahati today, dealing a serious blow to the party.

Rana Goswami joined the BJP today after having already offered his resignation on Wednesday, February 29, first from the job he held and then from the Congress party's primary membership. Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, greeted him warmly at the gathering.
