Digital Desk: Voters in Assam's five Lok Sabha constituencies turned out in big numbers on Friday to exercise their right to vote, outnumbering males in each.

Women were seen forming lines outside voting places starting at five in the morning. The majority of these women were of the mindset that they preferred to vote early to go home and finish their everyday tasks.

There are 43,64,859 female voters in the five constituencies overall, compared to 42,82,887 male voters. On the other hand, 123 belong to the third gender.

However, only four women candidates are in the fray, constituting 11.4 percent of the total 35 contestants.
