    Lumding Rail Official Arrested On Corruption Charges
    A team from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption today apprehended the accused from his office after receiving complaints and filing a case.


    Digital Desk: Another government official was detained on graft-related charges on Wednesday as part of a drive against corruption being carried out by the Assam Police at the direction of the chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma.

    According to early reports, the arrest was made today at Lumding in Assam's Hojai district, when a railway officer was exposed as accepting the bribe.

    According to officials, K K Samanta Roy was the subject of a case for allegedly soliciting bribes from other members of the railway department in order to control government work involving transfers and deputization.

    In Assam's Nagaon district, investigators from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption launched a drive against corruption earlier on Tuesday and detained one forest official.

    Nepal Chandra Mandal, a forest official assigned to the Office of the Forest Range Officer in Salona, Nagaon Division, was identified as the offender. He was an Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACF).

    He was apprehended after accepting a bribe from the complaint in exchange for issuing a TP (challan).

    The anti-corruption unit tweeted, “Today @DIR_VAC_ASSAM trapped red handed Nepal Ch Mandal, Asst. Conservator of Forest (ACF), I/C Range Officer, Northern Range, Salona, Nagaon Division in his office after he accepted bribe from the complainant for issuing TP (challan).”
