Digital Desk: A group of 31 Manipur MLAs have decided to urge Union Home Minister Amit Shah to find a permanent solution that will bring peace to the state as violence in the state remains unabated.
The Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) Manipur provided this information in a formal announcement on Wednesday.
The statement claims that the MLAs suggested to Shah that other central security forces be used in place of the 9th Assam Rifles, the 22nd Assam Rifles, and the 37th Assam Rifles. These other forces would be more oriented towards promoting state unity.
The statement said, "They further stated that there are concerns regarding the roles played by certain Assam Rifles units, which at this time pose a threat to the cause of unity within the state."
According to the release, the delegation to the Union Home Minister also emphasised the need for a thorough investigation into the public display of weapons and ammunition during the July 5 Peace March in Churachandpur.
The MLAs expressed their concern for the need to address this issue and stop the further replenishment of these illegal weapons, according to the statement, which went on to say that the representation raised significant questions about the source of these arms and ammunition as well as their continuous availability, both of which play a crucial role in this violence.
In order to restore peace and normalcy, the MLAs requested the Home Minister to take stronger and more effective measures against armed insurgency/cross-border armed insurgent groups operating in the state, it was noted.
The MLAs reiterated their commitment to launch forceful actions against these armed groups who have disregarded the established norms of engagement.
Without the assistance of such armed forces, it is unimaginable for any conflict to continue for such a long time, the statement added.
"The MLAs also affirmed that violence in outlying areas ought to stop. To preserve long-term stability in the area, which has proved elusive throughout the previous two months, the central security forces must take a more assertive stance. We can begin working towards a peaceful solution if all acts of aggression and violence stop in these regions through comprehensive engagement with all parties involved," the release stated.
The article continued by stating that the MLAs also asked for greater security measures, such as increased highway patrolling along the NH2, to ensure the safe movement of products for the state's citizens.
It also recommended hastening the completion of the border wall along the Indian-Myanmar border in Manipur.
