Manipur partially withdraws ban on broadband; mobile internet remains suspended

Digital Desk: Nearly three months since the internet has been suspended in the violence-hit Manipur, the government on Tuesday lifted the restriction on broadband internet on a conditional basis in a "liberalised manner." The Home Department issued a notification stating that mobile internet will still be suspended.

It said, "connection will only be made through static IP and that the subscriber concerned shall not accept any other connection other than that which is currently permitted (TSP/ISP shall be held responsible for non-compliance of this condition)".

The message stated that the subscriber in question "shall not at any cost permit any Wifi Hotspots from any of the routers and systems using the connection." According to the decree, the government took into account the suffering of the populace as the internet ban had an impact on businesses, organisations, and people who worked from home, in addition to mobile recharge, LPG cylinder booking, electricity bill payment, and other online services. According to the statement, the restriction on broadband internet has been liberalised and lifted upon compliance with a number of terms and conditions.
