Manipur violence: Internet ban extended in state for 5 more days
The Manipur government's official statement states that the order is being issued to prevent any disturbances to the peace and public order within its territorial control.

Digital Desk: The Manipur government has extended the ban on Internet and data services for an extra five days until June 25 with immediate effect to avert any potential disruptions of public order and tranquility in light of the ongoing unrest in the state. The state's internet service ban will remain in effect for five more days, or until 3 p.m. on June 25, to a statement from the Manipur government on Tuesday stated.

The Manipur government's official statement states that the order is being issued to prevent any disturbances to the peace and public order within its territorial control. The state government must provide limited internet connectivity in a few designated sites, under a ruling by the Manipur High Court.

The bench noted that particularly when it comes to the continuous admissions process for students, access to the internet is necessary for people to finish urgent and significant work. Justices Ahanthem Bimol Singh and A Guneshwar Sharma chose on Friday when they were deliberating on several Public Interest Litigations requesting the restoration of internet services in the state.

Advocates claim that it was made public on Tuesday, though. In response to the Kuki-Meity violence that followed a high court ruling to consider giving the Meities Scheduled Tribe status, the state has maintained its internet restriction measures since May 3.

The state government has also asked telecom service providers to submit affidavits demonstrating the viability of providing the public with limited internet access while outlawing social networking websites to protect its interest in maintaining law and order.
