    Resumption of normal classes postponed amid unabated unrest in Manipur

    Notably, there are over 1,110 schools in Manipur, including 643 private schools, 384 government schools, and 83 aided schools.


    Digital Desk: The Manipur Government has decided to postpone the resumption of regular sessions in schools around the region till July 1 due to the continuing violence in the state.


    L Nandakumar Singh, the director of school education in Manipur, issued a formal order asking all zonal education officers under the Department of Education-Schools to notify all parties involved and take appropriate action.


    Initially, the Manipur government had intended for regular classes to resume there beginning on June 21 through Class 8. The decision was later reevaluated in light of the deteriorating law-and-order situation, and the reopening has since been postponed.

    The Manipur Government taking Twitter wrote, “The Directorate of Education (S), Government of Manipur issued a notice that normal classes for all schools will resume from 21st June 2023 but it has been deferred to 1st July 2023 or until further notice. #Manipur.”


    All Manipur schools have remained closed since May 4 due to massive violence that broke out in the state. State Minister Th Basantakumar Singh had declared that Manipur schools would be closed for the summer starting on May 4. Later, the summer break was extended to June 19.


    Notably, there are over 1,110 schools in Manipur, including 643 private schools, 384 government schools, and 83 aided schools.


    Since May 3, when conflicts between two communities led to widespread violence, Manipur has been plunged into chaos. Over 100 individuals were killed and hundreds of people were displaced as a result of the conflicts' aftermath throughout the state.
