Digital Desk: Manipur police have detained 17 people for reportedly taking an active role in various sorts of arson attacks in the state.

This comes after miscreants set fire to a house in Imphal East's New Checkon area on June 15.

On the other hand, the residence of union minister RK Ranjan Singh in Imphal East was also set on fire.

As per reports, 12 people have been arrested in Imphal East and five in Imphal West in connection with the June 15 incident.

However, the state police are expected to issue a comment on the matter later in the day.

On the other hand, the Biren Singh cabinet held a meeting to discuss the state's current situation.

Miscreants set fire to Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Education RK Ranjan Singh's property in the Kongba- Nandeibam Leikai region of Imphal East last evening, just days after Minister Nemcha Kipgen's residence in Imphal was set ablaze on June 15.

Last night at around 11:00 p.m., a huge number of miscreants attacked the gate of R K Ranjan Singh's residence.

Reportedly, at around 11 p.m., a mob rushed the campus and set fire to his residence and a few makeshift constructions.

Ranjan Singh's house was partially damaged, and the improvised structure was completely destroyed.

The number of the crowd surpassed the house guards posted at the gate of the residence. Police in Imphal East used tear gas shells to clear out the crowd that assembled near RK Ranjan Singh's home.
