Digital Desk: On Thursday night, a big fire broke out at Ajanta Path in the Hatigaon region of Guwahati, trapping about 150 households.
According to sources, there were no injuries in the incident. However, it is suspected that the fire damaged properties worth several lakhs.
The giant fire broke out around 10.30 p.m., utterly destroying around 150 houses in the area.
The fire, which started in the home of individual Riju Ali, is thought to have been caused by an electrical short circuit. The specific cause of the fire, however, has yet to be determined.
According to ABP Live, Riju Ali stated that "We were preparing to go to bed when we observed a wave of dense smoke coming from another room in our house. We dashed to safety, raised an alarm, and notified the police and a local fire station."
"Because of the explosion of multiple LPG cylinders, the fire spread quickly. The inferno quickly overtook the entire region, destroying multiple dwellings. We were unable to preserve any of our staff as the terrible fire quickly devoured the entire region. Everyone here has lost everything," Ali further explained.
Up to 15 fire trucks were dispatched to the scene. The firefighters worked for more than three hours to put out the fire.
The majority of the damaged residences were tented houses. Riju Ali owned all of the houses, and the tenants were mostly daily-earning labourers.
Immediately after the fire started, dense smoke engulfed the entire region, the resident was also seen running in turmoil. The fire also destroyed two cars.
Meanwhile, top police officers and district administration workers rushed to the scene to assess the situation.
Some of those who lost their homes in the fire moved to relatives' and friends' homes, while others were forced to spend the night outside under the open cold atmosphere as a few days ago severe rain made the weather cold in Guwahati City.
