    Meghalaya CM Sangama visits grieving families: Says, will ensure justice for victims
    He assured the pressure groups that are causing problems that Assam's government is completely cooperating with Meghalaya. 

    Digital Desk: The chief minister of Meghalaya, Conrad K. Sangma led a cabinet visit to grieving families of those killed in the Mukroh firing incident. Prestone Tynsong, the deputy chief minister, Renikton Lyngdoh, the minister of PHE, Snaiwbhalang Dhar, the minister of urban affairs, and Kyrmen Shylla, the minister of social welfare, all were present.

    He visited the victims' families and handed over the ex-gratia cheque of Rs. 5 lakh. In his interactions with the family, he expressed condolences on behalf of the State's citizens and the Government. He also announced to the crowd gathered in the village that the government has chosen to cancel all official government events and celebrations in support of the people of Mukroh.

    The Chief Minister visited the village and stopped to speak with pressure groups that were protesting, and assured them that the Government will ensure justice for the victims. He informed them that the governments of Meghalaya and Assam had decided to ask the Indian government to request the NIA or CBI to look into the shooting incident that resulted in the deaths of five civilians and a forest guard from Assam.

    He assured the pressure groups that are causing problems that Assam's government is completely cooperating with Meghalaya. Additionally, he informed them that the West Karbi Anglong SP had been transferred from the district as well as the concerned officials, including OCs and forest officials, had been suspended.

    He further stated that on November 24 in Delhi, a State Cabinet delegation will meet with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and then have a meeting with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

    The Jaintia Students Union also delivered a document to the Chief Minister during the visit asking for a police outpost in Mukroh. The Chief Minister informed them that the Meghalayan government recently established an outpost at Barato that will soon be operational. But he said that he would think very carefully before granting the locals' request for an outpost at Mukroh.

    Later, the Chief Minister and other ministers held consultation sessions with various village stakeholders. Along the Assam-Meghalaya interstate border areas, the villagers conveyed their worries and informed the Chief Minister of the various issues they had been dealing with daily over the previous several years.

    The chief minister promised that the Union Home Ministry would be contacted to address the issues brought up by the locals.
