Missing woman constable: No 'suicide note' found so far, says Guwahati Police

The city police issued a clarifying statement on this matter a few hours after the incident was reported.

Digital Desk: Guwahati Police on Tuesday confirmed that no "suicide note" has yet been found by the police in response to the missing person and alleged suicide case involving female constable Gayotri Hazarika.

According to reports that surfaced earlier today, Gayotri, who had been missing since yesterday, committed suicide by jumping off from Saraighat Bridge. The police discovered her mobile, shoes, and eyeglasses while searching the old bridge, and they also found a suicide note.

However, the city police issued a clarifying statement on this matter a few hours after the incident was reported.

In a press statement, it was noted, "It has been observed that there are some News items stating that the missing constable left a “suicide note” and the news items also linked this missing incident to her duty for Silsako eviction. It is hereby clarified that no “suicide note” has been found by Police so far."

Additionally, it was previously revealed that she had been deployed in the Silsako eviction despite her persistent resistance. The police added, "It is also hereby clarified that WPC Gayatri Hazarika was not deputed for the Silsako eviction drive as she was exempted by the OC, Paltan Bazar PS." in response.

According to the press statement, her roommate and Constable Juri Baishya of the Police Commissionerate, Guwahati reported her missing last night at Paltan Bazar, claiming that she had not been reachable since 6 o'clock. She added that Gayotri was despondent and dealing with major health problems.

Around 8 this morning, a police team from the Jalukbari OP's Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) discovered three items on the old Saraighat Bridge that were later determined to belong to Gayotri Hazarika: a mobile phone, a pair of glasses, and a pair of shoes.

The police added that they are still making an effort to find the missing officer.
