Digital Desk: One-member inquiry commission of inquiry set up to probe the Mukroh firing incident has submitted its report to the Assam government, reports emerged on Friday.
In December 2022, the committee was constituted and was headed by retired Gauhati High Court Judge Rumi Kumari Phukan.
According to a statement made in this regard, the report was submitted on September 20, 2023, to the additional chief secretary (home and political department) of, the Assam government.
According to the statement, the investigation was completed by the notification's terms of reference and by the notification (number HMA 19015/19/2022 political (a) H & P (Ecf-250762) dated November 23, 2022.
The statement stated, "The commission examined numerous witnesses and documents produced by the forest department, as well as by the police department and different organizations."
Notably, the firing incident in Mukroh occurred on November 22 of last year and led to the Assam Police and Assam Forest Guards chasing a truck carrying timber. The forces detained the truck near Mukroh village. When the Assam Police arrived in their village, the residents of Mukroh became agitated. As a result of the firing, they surrounded the Assam Police and Assam Forest Guards.
The shooting incident resulted in the deaths of at least six people, including an Assam forest guard.
