Ahead of Assam Municipal Elections 2022, Nalbari district Excise Department has declared dry day in the region from March 4 to March 6, 2022.
Digital Desk: Following W.T. Message No. EX.62/2018/72 dated February 17, 2022, received from the Secretary to the Government of Assam, Excise Department, and in light of the election to the Municipal Boards of Assam scheduled for March 6, the Deputy Commissioner, Nalbari, has declared Dry Day in the Nalbari district from 4 pm on March 4 to 4 pm on March 6, inclusive of the day of the counting of votes, which is set for March 9, until the process of counting is over for the Municipal Elections 2022.
During the period, the sale, possession, and distribution of any liquor, spirituous fermented or intoxicants, or other substances of a similar sort by any individual or group of persons in the region is strictly forbidden.
All government-licensed IMFL Retail OFF/ON Shops, county spirit, bar, club, hotel, and wholesale warehouses in the Nalbari district would be closed throughout the prohibition period.
According to a press release, any disobedience of the order will be dealt with under the relevant provisions of the Assam Excise Act and Rules, as well as
Section 135 (C) of the Election Rules.
On March 6, Assam will hold Municipal Elections 2022 for 80 municipal boards, with counting taking place on March 9.
For the first time in Assam's civic election history, the polling would be conducted using electronic voting machines, according to the ASEC (EVMs).
