Meghalaya: NEC's Golden Jubilee celebrations in Shillong, PM Modi to attend the Fest
This Golden Jubilee is expected to give a new platform for the NEC to provide even greater service in the future...

Digital Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Meghalaya on December 18 to attend the North Eastern Council's (NEC) golden jubilee festivities, according to officials.

An Act of Parliament formed the North Eastern Council (NEC) in 1971. It was initially launched on November 7, 1972, in Shillong, and will celebrate its 50th anniversary in November 2022.

During the NEC's 70th Plenary meeting in Guwahati in October 2022, which was presided over by Union Home Minister and NEC Chairman Amit Shah, it was determined that this significant milestone would be marked appropriately.

As a result, the NEC's Golden Jubilee is being hosted in Shillong, where an official meeting of the NEC, as well as a public meeting, are scheduled. The internal gathering will take place at the State Convention Centre Auditorium, while the public meeting will take place at the Shillong Polo Grounds.

The NEC mentioned in a statement that both events will be graced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with all Members of the NEC in attendance, including the union Home Minister, DoNER Ministers, Governors and Chief Ministers of the NE states, Central Ministers from the NE Region, local MPs and MLAs, and nominated Members of the NEC.

In addition, the state Chief Secretaries, chosen Secretaries of Central Ministries, top officials from the NE states, and Heads of the iconic Institutions established with NEC support have been invited. Aside from the local community, prominent residents, achievers, representatives of Self Help Groups, and Farmers' Groups from all eight NE states will attend the public meeting. The public meeting is expected to draw around 10,000 participants.

The Prime Minister will lay foundation stones for several projects, including the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Shillong, as well as dedicate 4G towers in Meghalaya, launch NEC initiatives and Meghalaya state projects.

However, the Jubilee is intended to give a new platform for the NEC to deliver even better in the future, as well as to drive further development initiatives, as has been done effectively across the eight NE states over the last five decades.
