Nagaland’s five districts declare non-compliance with the armed forces, to ban all national celebrat

Kohima: The tribals in five districts of Nagaland announced complete non-compliance with the armed forces in protest against the killing of the 14 Konyak villagers in Mon district by the Assam Rifles on December 4. Additionally, they declared a ban on all national celebrations and army recruitment.

Reportedly, the announcement was made by the Eastern Naga People’s Organization (ENPO) that represents the Konyaks, Phoms, Changs, Yimchungrus, Sangtams and Khiamniungans tribal groups.

ENPO said, “The protest will continue until the Oting village gets justice by the government. Moreover, Amit shah should withdraw his statement in Parliament about Army para commandos firing on the villagers in self-defense.”

Earlier, the Konyak Union declared total restriction on the convoy of Indian military force and patrolling across the Konyak area. They also asked the people to end their connection with the Indian Army.

A few days before, the Oting villagers had refused to accept the government compensation of Rs.18 lakhs given to the next of kin of the 14 victim families.

The villagers declared that they would not accept the compensation until the soldiers were proved guilty under the law.
