Nahid Afrin allegedly accepted the award for best playback singer for the song 'Nilate Luka Bhaku'...
Digital Desk: The 8th Assam State Film Awards 2023 was held on March 13 at the Srimanta Sankardeva International Auditorium in Panjabari, Guwahati. The event was organised by the Assam State Film (Finance & Development) Corporation Ltd. in partnership with the Directorate of Cultural Affairs, Assam.
Though the event was a great platform to enhance and appreciate the work of the great talents, it suddenly became a stage of controversy as Assam Singer and Indian Idol fame Nahid Afrin allegedly accepted the best playback singer award for the Assamese film Nijaan's song 'Nilate Luka Bhaku,' which was originally sung by Rupjyoti Devi.
On March 13, Assam Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary presented the award to Nahid Afrin at the State Cinema Awards.
Nahid Afrin uploaded a photo of her receiving the medal on Facebook, she captioned saying, "Honoured to receive the prestigious 8th Assam State Film Award,2023 as the Best Playback Singer(female) again for the 2nd time. Highly grateful to the jury members for believing in me and inspiring me more to work harder in my field. Lastly, I thank all of my fans, friends, family and well-wishers for always being there for me and loving me the way I am ??"
As said by internet users, Nahid Afrin was aware that the song was not hers but yet she received the award.
"Kindly tell us how you received the award for a song done by another artist," another commenter said.
In wake of the State Film Awards Controversy, Assam Musician Jatin Sharma also criticized the jury's role in the selection of giving awards to the awardee in the name of others.
Netizens have fumed the social media as claims have now been raved up against the jury.
