Digital Desk: In the midst of the controversy surrounding Nahid Afrin's wrongly getting the award at the Assam State Film Awards, Minister for Cultural Affairs Bimal Borah stated that she was selected for the award and not the song.
Borah said, "The process begins with the producers submitting an application form, in which the producer of the movie 'Nijanor Gaan' mentioned Nahid Afrin but not the name of the song. While the jury members were listening to all of the movie's songs, perhaps they had a discussion, and there was tough competition. However, the jury cannot select the song or artist for the award unless and until the producer nominates it. This could be due to a human mistake that turned into a controversy."
"As there was mention of Nahid Afrin in the application form so she received the award, even though the name of the song was wrongly presented on the certificate. She received the award for Natun Ejaak. She is not required to return the award," the minister added.
"Nahid Afrin was chosen for the award, not the song," he added.
It should be mentioned that a major controversy erupted on social media after it was revealed that Nahid Afrin received the Best Playback Singer award at the 8th State Film Awards ceremony for a song in which she has not participated.
Nahid Afrin got the Pratima Pandey Barua Award for Best Playback Singer (Woman) at the awards ceremony for the song 'Neelate Luka Bhaku' from the film "Nijanor Gaan." However, the song was not sung by Nahid Afrin, but by Rupjyoti Devi and Zubeen Garg.
As soon as the story went viral on social media, it sparked widespread outrage in the state's cultural department.
Meanwhile, the original singer of the song shared a photo of Nahid getting the award from Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary, along with a certificate accompanying the award, on Facebook. She also shared a YouTube clip.
"CONGRATULATIONS Nahid Afrin for receiving the prestigious 8th Assam State Film Award for this song," her caption read.
