Digital Desk: In a landmark decision to bolster India's position in the world of badminton, the Assam Government has revealed its plans to establish a state-of-the-art National Centre of Excellence for Badminton in North Guwahati. The announcement was made during a recent State Cabinet Meeting held on Wednesday, August 2. The center envisioned as a breeding ground for the country's budding badminton talents, is set to provide world-class training facilities, enabling players to achieve greater success on the international stage.

The primary objective of the National Centre of Excellence for Badminton is to elevate India's stature in the global badminton arena. By fostering a nurturing environment and offering top-notch training opportunities, the center aims to identify and nurture young talents, providing them with the necessary support and guidance to compete at the highest levels.

To solidify this ambitious initiative, an essential Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed between the Government of Assam and the Badminton Association of India (BAI). The agreement is proposed to have a tenure of 25 years, with an option for renewal for an additional 10 years, establishing a long-term partnership between the state government and the apex body of Indian badminton.

The MoU will serve as the foundation for collaboration between the government and BAI, outlining the roles and responsibilities of each party in the development and maintenance of the National Centre of Excellence. This partnership is expected to create a sustainable framework for nurturing young talents and supporting them through their badminton journey.

To ensure the seamless functioning and effective administration of the National Centre of Excellence, a Management Committee comprising five members will be constituted. These committee members will play a pivotal role in overseeing the day-to-day operations and activities of the center. Their stewardship is expected to guarantee the optimal utilization of resources, the maintenance of world-class infrastructure, and the implementation of high-quality training programs.

The location of the center in North Guwahati was carefully chosen to provide a conducive environment for training and a gateway to talent-rich northeastern states. The region has a strong affinity for sports, and the center's establishment is expected to encourage more young enthusiasts to take up badminton professionally.
