New foot over bridge in Guwahati: Fancy Bazaar to face smooth traffic

Guwahati: To clear traffic congestion at the Mahatma Gandhi road in Fancy Bazaar, the Assam Government is planning to construct a new foot over bridge in Guwahati at this particular location.

As per sources, the new foot over bridge in Guwahati will be constructed in front of the LIC campus extending upto Mahavir Jain Park. The Revenue Department has already sanctioned the land for the construction of the over-bridge. The construction of the new foot over bridge in Guwahati is likely to begin in the next 15 days.

A senior PWD official speaking on the development said they have been receiving complaints from locals on the massive traffic congestion at the location due to the city bus stoppage in front of the Mahavir Jain Park.

“We have even seen people crossing over dividers, flouting traffic norms, including women as well. This is highly dangerous. So the department has decided to construct the new foot over-bridge,” a PWD official said.

The officials are working on the entire plan keeping in mind the bazaar goers and others.

At present, there are 6 new foot over bridges in Guwahati, all constructed and on the completion of 100 days of the BJP-led government in Assam.

The Adabari foot-over-bridge has been constructed at a cost of Rs 10 crore and 38 lakhs, measuring 28 metres.

The Boripara-AT Road foot-over-bridge measures 28 metres and has been constructed at a cost of Rs 9 crore and 70 lakhs.

The Shukreshwar foot-over-bridge at Mahatma Gandhi Road is constructed at a cost of 7 crores and 98 lakhs. The FOB measures 19.70 metres in length.

The FOB at Ganeshguri (near Apollo Hospital) has been constructed at a cost of Rs 9 crores and 88 lakhs measuring 20.68 crores.

The Christian Basti FOB has been constructed at a cost of Rs 10 crores and 6 lakhs, measuring 16.75 metres in length.

The Khanapara FOB near Vivanta by Taj hotel has been constructed at a cost of Rs 13 crore and is said to have been the costliest among the varying budgets for the constructions of all foot over bridges.
