Digital Desk: Two days after a video of two women paraded naked went viral, it has now been revealed that one of the two victims is the wife of a Kargil hero.

In an interview, the husband of one of the two women paraded naked lamented that, though he protected the country, he was unable to save his wife from being humiliated.

"I fought for the country in the Kargil War and was also part of the Indian Peacekeeping Force in Sri Lanka. I protected the country, but I'm disappointed that I couldn't protect my wife and fellow villagers," he told a local news channel.

He had served in the Indian Army as a Subedar in the Assam Regiment.

He claimed that on the fatal May 4 morning, a crowd burned down numerous houses in the area, disrobed the two women, and forced them to walk on village paths in front of people. "The police were present but took no action. "I want those who burned down houses and humiliated women to face harsh punishment," he said.

A video surfaced on Wednesday showing two women from one of the warring tribes being paraded naked by a few men from the other side. The incident reportedly happened on May 4, but came to light only two days ago.

The police have arrested four people in connection with the incident.

160 people have died in the state since ethnic violence erupted on May 3, when a 'Tribal Solidarity March' was organized in the hill areas to protest the Meitei community's demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.

Meiteis constitute around 53% of Manipur's population and dwell largely in the Imphal Valley, while tribals, which include Nagas and Kukis, comprise about 40% and live mostly in the hill districts.

Meanwhile, the angry mob has burned down the house of the main accused.
