    Over 3000 cases of Suicides reported in 2021: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

    When asked about the number of suicides in Assam in 2020, the CM stated that over 3000 cases of suicide, 3243 (to be precise)  were registered in the state in 2020.


    Digital Desk: Assam state minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed that over 3000 cases of suicides were documented from the last as per the tally of the past year.

    In response to a question on the actual number of suicide cases documented in 2021, the CM stated that 3095 individuals in the state died due to suicide in the previous year.

    According to the chief minister, the number of suicides in Assam has dropped since the year 2020.

    During the questioning hour on Monday, March 21, the chief minister provided an update on the recent suicide events in Assam, in response to a question from BJP MLA Mrinal Saikia.

    CM Sarma said that the Assam government has made several steps to increase awareness about improved mental health and address issues linked to mental health.

    Such concerns frequently lead to a person taking the last step of committing suicide, hence it is critical to address mental health issues through various programmes.

    According to the CM, the issue of mental health has a role in the incidence of suicides, thus the state government is addressing it by launching programmes for the development and awareness of mental health issues.
