Digital Desk: The prime suspect in the 13-year-old girl's gang rape in the Chandrapur neighborhood outside of the city was finally taken into custody by the Guwahati police on Wednesday.
The development came after six days of the heinous crime that took place in the aforementioned locality.
Sanjib Barman, the main accused who was fugitive, surrendered himself to the Pragjyotishpur police today.
Additionally, two vehicles with the registration numbers AS-01-FQ-8476 and AS-01-FG-3660 for four-wheel vehicles and two-wheel vehicles, respectively, were recovered by the police.
Two accomplices of Sanjib Barman who were also involved in the crime were previously apprehended by Pragjyotishpur police: Dipankar Roy and Nilu Malo. On January 24, they were taken into jail by the police and then remanded in police custody.

Based on the information that was provided, the little girl had been picked and taken by youths when she was on the streets, asking for help. Later they raped her repeatedly causing immense trauma to the girl.
It is to be noted that when the matter came to light, Pragjyotishpur police acted quickly to apprehend two of the culprits; however, the primary accused was able to flee the scene.
