GMC's Directive: Property owners urged to link their holding numbers with their APDCL consumer numbers
If the holding number is not connected, electricity will no longer be connected,  GMC stern about collecting taxes...

Digital Desk: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has instructed property owners to link their holding number with their APDCL consumer number as soon as possible, although emphasising that many Guwahati citizens have not yet done so.

Friday, the GMC Commissioner spoke at a press conference and said, "Many citizens have still not adopted holding numbers. Although many residents of the city have yet to do so, holding numbers and APDCL customer numbers ought to be connected."

He added that an app will make it simpler for Guwahati residents to pay taxes because GMC workers have a history of harassing people in the name of collecting taxes.

Additionally, GMC has provided a 50% tax payment option for individuals who initially owe Rs. 250 crores.

GMC instructed that everyone pay taxes over the previous three years, and it will provide a 50% tax exemption. It also stated that those who have not paid taxes over the past 10-15 years can incur a 50% charge.

Only 50,000 consumers have linked their holding numbers with APDCL so far, and GMC has collected Rs. 63 crores in the last six months. Meanwhile, 180 holding centres will be established to receive holding numbers.

According to the commissioner, "If the holding number is not attached, the electricity will be disconnected. GMC is strict on tax collection."

Meanwhile, the GMC will conduct extensive awareness campaigns in each ward of the city, and Common Service Centres (CSCs) will be established from which people will be able to link their APDCL consumer numbers withholding numbers, self-assess their properties to obtain holding numbers, and clear pending dues beginning December 3.
