Digital Desk: The second phase of border discussions between the chief ministers of Assam and Meghalaya began on Wednesday (May 24, 2023) at the state guest house in Koinadora, Guwahati, Assam.
The meeting is attended by Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K. Sangma, Deputy Chief Ministers Prestone Tynsong and Snaiwbhalang Dhar, cabinet minister Comingone Ymbone, and a few top government officials, including the Chief Secretary.
Assam delegates include Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Cabinet Ministers Atul Bora, Pijush Hazarika, and Chandra Mohan Patowary, as well as top Assam government officials.
The second round of border discussions will focus on six remaining areas of dispute: Langpih, Borduar, Nongwah-Mawtamur, Desh Doomreah, Block 1 and Block II, and Psiar-Khanduli.
It should be noted that on March 29, 2022, the chief ministers of Assam and Meghalaya, Himanta Biswa Sarma and Conrad Sangma, inked a historic agreement in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the national capital.
The agreement was signed by the two chief ministers in the presence of the chief secretaries of both states, as well as other state authorities and officials from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
The draft resolution was developed by the two state governments in order to address border issues in six of the twelve disputed locations along the 884-kilometre interstate boundary.
