Devendra Fadnavis, the deputy chief minister of Maharashtra, spoke with N. Biren Singh, the chief minister of Manipur, about the safety of students trapped in the violent state, and he encouraged him to give them security till the situation is under control. Different students from Maharashtra are pursuing their studies at the NIT Manipur and were stuck due to the rising scenario in the state.

Violence was reportedly witnessed in Manipur on May 3 during a "Tribal Solidarity March" organised by the All Tribal Student Union Manipur (ATSUM) in the Torbung area of the Churachandpur district to protest the non-tribal Meiteis' demand for Scheduled Tribe (SC) status. The Meiteis are the dominant ethnic group in the Imphal Valley.

The Indian Army and Assam Rifles have been collaborating to rescue residents from all ethnicities, stop the violence, and bring about a return to normalcy in the state.  Because of their tireless efforts, there has currently been no major violence recorded.
