    Assam: Suspected IED disarmed in Tinsukia's Makum area averting a major tragedy

    Digital Desk: A huge catastrophe was averted in Assam's Tinsukia district on April 26 when security officers recovered and successfully defused a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED).

    According to reports, the suspected IED was discovered by an army patrolling squad this morning at around 10 a.m. on Tinsukia's Makum Road near an overbridge, causing panic in the neighbourhood.

    Meanwhile, Tinsukia Superintendent of Police Abhijit Gurav has arrived and inspected the situation. Tinsukia SP Abhijit Gurav spoke to the media about the incident, saying, "Today morning at 10 a.m., we received information of the discovery of a bomb-like suspected object at the Makum overbridge. Immediately, police and army men were on the scene."

    We cordoned off the area and moved the suspected object to a safe location where it was destroyed. We are now examining what the object was. We successfully defused the thing and are investigating who planted it here and whether there is any organisation behind the act." he further added.

    It should be mentioned that the suspected IED explosives was successfully defused,  and in wake of the incident Tinsukia police have launched an inquiry into the incident.
