    Three Inland Waterway Transport engineers put under suspension over Majuli ferry tragedy

    Majuli: The Assam Government has put three engineers of the Department of Inland Water Transport under suspension in view of the alleged negligence that may have led to the Majuli boat tragedy on Wednesday.





    Bikramaditya Choudhury, i/c Executive Engineer, IWT, Dibrugarh Division, Mukut Gogoi, i/c Assistant Executive Engineer, IWT, Jorhat Sub-Division, and Ratul Tamuli, Junior Engineer, IWT, Jorhat Sub-Division are the engineers who have been under suspension,





    State Transport Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary expressed grief on the tragic accident and has reached Majuli to take stock of the situation. The Minister is also closely monitoring the ongoing rescue and relief operation.





    People have expressed grief and anger over the callous attitude of the officials as well as the failed promises of the government that has led to troubling situation for the people in Majuli over river navigation.





    Senior officials have rushed to the spot as directed by the Minister to coordinate with the relief and rescue operations at Nimatighat, Majuli. Trasnport secretary Jadav Saikia has been directed to inquire into the accident, a release from the Transport Minister’s office read.
