Digital Desk: The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the election schedule for the legislative assemblies of Nagaland, Meghalaya, and Tripura on Wednesday. Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar said that with the announcement of the election schedule, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has come into effect. The Nagaland assembly's tenure was scheduled to end on March 12, the Meghalaya assembly's tenure on March 15, and the Tripura assembly's tenure on March 22.
Nagaland Assembly Election Schedule 2023
To elect the 60 legislative members of the Nagaland assembly, voting will take place on February 27, and the counting of votes will take place on March 2.
The drive to create "Frontier Nagaland," which consists of 16 districts made up of seven different tribal groups, is expected to play a key role in the upcoming Nagaland election. The ruling party, a coalition of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), won 30 seats in the 2018 election and formed the government with support from additional members of other parties. However, with 26 seats won, the Nationalist People's Front (NPF) was the overall successful party.
Meghalaya Assembly Elections 2023 Schedule
Polling will take place on February 27 to elect the 60 legislative members of the Meghalaya legislature, and voting will be counted on March 2.
The Indian National Congress (Congress) emerged as the largest party in Meghalaya's 2018 assembly election, earning 21 seats in the 60-member assembly. However, since it fell short of the halfway point, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) formed a coalition government with the National People's Party (NPP). Conrad Sangma was named Chief Minister.
Tripura Assembly Election Schedule 2023
Polling will take place on February 16 to elect the 60 legislative members of the Tripura assembly, and votes will be counted on March 2.
The most exciting competition will take place in Tripura, where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress, Left, and Trinamool Congress, led by Mamata Banerjee, will face off. The BJP, as it did in the past elections in Karnataka and Gujarat, has changed its Chief Minister's face in Tripura, replacing Biplab Deb with Manik Saha to overcome the anti-incumbency. In the 2018 election, the BJP won 35 seats, dethroning incumbent Chief Minister Manik Sarkar of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), who had been in power for nearly 20 years.
