    Tripura: Sec 144 imposed in Dharmanagar over vandalisation of mosque incident

    Agartala: Section 144 has been imposed in Dharmanagar, Tripura after an incident of a mosque vandalisation led to a serious situation in the area. The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon during a rally held by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP). Miscreants vandalized shops, houses and a mosque in the vicinity.





    The rally was held ostensibly to protest against communal violence in Bangladesh, the scenes witnessed in the northeastern state were starkly reminiscent of the violence itself.

    “Some miscreants attacked a small mosque, some shops and some houses during the VHP rally. These shops and houses reportedly belong to families from the minority community. We have deployed an adequate number of police officers to maintain law and order. The incident took place near Chamtila and Rowa bazaar area. We have registered a case,” said additional inspector general (AIG) of police (law and order) Subrata Chakraborty.





    Section 144 has been imposed by the state government of Tripura until further notice. According to locals, miscreants vandalized a mosque and several shops at Chamtila area in north Tripura district on Tuesday evening.





    The state police and Central paramilitary force has been deployed in the area, to check on any untoward situation that might arise due to the incident.

    The Tripura Police in a tweet said, “North Tripura District Police is taking lawful action in connection with the incident that happened today. The situation is under control. Some people are spreading rumours and circulating provocative messages on social media. It is an appeal to all not to believe such messages and maintain peace.”





    Lawful action will be initiated against those who are circulating rumours on social media platforms and are trying to disturb peaceful environment, the police added.
