Digital Desk: On the cusp of a historic moment, a 14-member team representing the United Liberation Front of Asom's  (ULFA) pro-talk faction is en route to New Delhi to partake in a groundbreaking peace accord signing ceremony reportedly slated for December 29, 2023. This delegation, composed of prominent figures including Raju Barua, Sash Chowdhury, Arvind Rajkhowa, and Pranati Deka, among others, signifies a crucial step toward resolving Assam's prolonged conflicts.

After a decade-long negotiation process initiated in 2011, the impending peace deal is poised to address a comprehensive 12-point charter of demands articulated by the ULFA. These demands encompass constitutional and political reforms aimed at safeguarding the cultural identity, resources, and land rights of Assam's indigenous populace. Moreover, economic provisions, measures to combat illegal migration, and initiatives for the preservation of Assam's rich cultural heritage are integral components of the proposed agreement.

The imminent signing ceremony, set to witness the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, underscores the unwavering commitment of both central and state governments to secure enduring peace in the region. With an economic package for Assam and substantial safeguards for indigenous communities on the horizon, this accord heralds a momentous breakthrough in negotiations, heralded as the 'mother of all peace deals.'

The ULFA's pro-talk faction, under the leadership of key figures like Anup Chetia and Sashadhar Choudhury, has been actively engaged in discussions with senior Home Ministry officials to finalize the intricacies of the agreement. As the delegation journeys to Delhi, a prevailing sense of optimism permeates the atmosphere, hinting at a transformative era of stability and prosperity for Assam. Anticipated to put an end to decades of insurgency and turmoil, this peace deal is slated to focus primarily on developmental policies that will benefit the region and its inhabitants.

The imminent culmination of this protracted negotiation process represents a monumental leap towards peace and progress in Assam. As the nation awaits the historic signing, hopes are high for a future marked by unity, development, and tranquility in the region.
