"We do not need Babri Masjid we want...": Himanta Biswa Sarma slams Rahul Gandhi in Karnataka

Slamming Rahul Gandhi, Sarma added that he will never be able to become Prime Minister until Narendra Modi is there...

Digital Desk: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday slammed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his remarks during his London visit, saying that while Gandhi abused the Indian Parliament on foreign soil, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praises his motherland wherever he goes.

Slamming Rahul Gandhi, Sarma added that he will never be able to become Prime Minister until Narendra Modi is there.

Speaking at a 'Vijay Sankalp' rally at Kanakagiri in poll-bound Karnataka, Sarma said, "We have to restore the Bharatiya Janata Party to power here. We want Ram Janmabhoomi and no longer require the Babri Masjid. Rahul Gandhi tried to defame India in London, but I want to him that 'you will never be able to become the PM until Modi ji is there."

Sarma's remarks come after Rahul's recent speech at the prestigious Cambridge University, where he asserted that the fundamental framework of the Indian democracy was under attack.

"Everybody knows and it's been in the news a lot that Indian democracy is under pressure and under attack. I am an Opposition leader in India, and we are managing that space. The institutional structure needed for democracy is being restricted, including the free press, the judiciary, and even the concept of mobilization and movement. Therefore, the fundamental foundation of Indian democracy is under attack," the Congress MP alleged.

In a dig at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Sarma said, "Rahul came to Karnataka for 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' and then talked about 'Bharat Todo' (destroying India's reputation) in London."

The Assam CM urged Karnataka voters to support the BJP in the upcoming Assembly elections, claiming that PM Modi will lead the nation to become a "Visva Guru" under his guidance.

Karnataka is scheduled to go to polls before June, as the term of the 224-member Assembly is set to end on May 24. In the 2018 Assembly elections, the BJP won 104 seats to become the single biggest party, while the Congress and JD(S) won 78 and 37 seats, respectively.
