Digital Desk: In Assam, questions are mounting over the whereabouts of high-profile criminals such as Sunil Gogoi, Dipankar Barman, and the duo Sumi Boah and Tarkik Borah who are absconding after the arrest of Bishal Pukan who is arrested in an Online trading scam. It has been over two months, and yet there seems to be little progress in tracking down these absconders.
The case of Dipankar Barman, the owner of DB Stock and Broking, continues to cause outrage among investors. Barman allegedly embezzled around Rs 7,000 crore, leaving countless investors in financial ruin after his stockbroking company abruptly shut down. Many victims had been lured into investing sums ranging from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 80 lakh, under promises of doubling their money. Despite the magnitude of the crime, Barman remains at large, and the Assam Police have not been able to locate him.
Similarly, Sunil Gogoi, a contractor for the Jal Jeevan Mission, is still missing. Reports from Assam’s Director General of Police G P Singh suggest that Gogoi is alive and currently out of the state, but no substantial information has been revealed about his exact location. His continued absence raises the question: where exactly is Sunil Gogoi, and why haven’t authorities been able to track him down?
Meanwhile, a controversy surrounding Sumi-Tarkik in neighboring Meghalaya has surfaced, with allegations of criminal activity. Rumours abound that the duo is hiding in Meghalaya, with doubt of police officers and politicians possibly providing them protection. This has further fuelled frustrations among the public, who are calling for answers.
In the midst of this, the Assam Police have compiled a list of influential individuals, including politicians and celebrities, linked to the fake trading operations of Vishal Phukan. Several BJP leaders from Upper Assam are under scrutiny, and it is speculated that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma may soon be pressured to take action.
For now, all eyes are on the Assam government, waiting for their next move in this ever-evolving investigation.
