Assam Congress Worker Dies amid Chaotic ‘Raj Bhawan Chalo’ Protest

Frustration  deepened when protesters crossed barbed wire barriers that police had set to prevent demonstrations near Raj Bhavan…

Digital Desk: A march for peaceful  protest called “Raj Bhavan Chalo” turned grim on Wednesday in Guwahati when a Congress worker and member of the State Congress Legal Cell, Advocate Mridul Islam, 45, fell sick. After being admitted at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), he was declared brought in dead.

The protest was led by the APCC as part of the agitation instituted by the AICC across the nation on four principal concerns: corruption involving Gautam Adani; smart meters; the most recent move called ‘One Nation, One Election.’ While thousands of amendments have been held by Congress near the Raj Bhawan, echoing anti-BJP sentiments, both the central and state governments have slogans.

    A Chaotic Turn of Events
Frustration deepened when protesters crossed barbed wire barriers that police had set to prevent demonstrations near Raj Bhavan. The response was tear gas, which
created confusion among the police and the people. During this confrontation, Mridul Islam was said to have fainted, Daily Star understands.

Leaders of Congress have criticized the conduct of policemen during protests, saying that they kill a peaceful protester. The party has called for an independent probe into the event, which has caused much indignation in both partisan and civil
    societies.

Sreedhar Pillai: Bhupen Borah, APCC Chief, is ready for the unique battle.

APCC President Bhupen Borah led the high-voltage protest and strongly slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and industrialist Gautam Adani. Bashing the central
government in a speech, the man said, “For some time now, we thought that
Gautam Adani was different from Narendra Modi—no—they are one—‘Modani.’. They have both worked together and have brought a bad image to India globally.”

Borah pointed a finger at fraud allegations against Adani based on U.S. judiciary
observations and added that the CBI, SEBI, etc., of India have remained mum. He said that the BJP-led central government was “compromising corruption” and protecting Adani no matter what.

    The People’s Voice Amplified
The protest also protested other incidents, including rising debt in Assam with new CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and the deepening crisis in Manipur. Congress leaders wanted immediate actions like a complete ban on smart meters and due steps to reduce the burden on the people of Assam.

A strategy session was organized at Rajiv Bhavan before the march where Jitendra Singh, the AICC in charge of Gujarat, exhorted the party workers and leaders. Police barricades and heavy security did not daunt Congress members, and they
continued the march while MLA Diganta Barman fainted during the protest. Rogue
    Employees and Demand for Action

Young trend accepted the excesses of the police forces and demanded justice for the death of Mridul Islam after the opposition leaders created fur in Assam about the incident. “It appears the Assam Police is more interested in protecting corrupt elements than the masses,” said Borah, questioning the state’s administration.

The march “Raj Bhavan Chalo” represents the intentions of Congress party as a party that is dedicated to fighting against corruption, demanding accountability from BJP, and standing for people’s concerns. Sadly, the protest has a recent and painful example in Mridul Islam; nevertheless, the protesters cannot stop their struggle.
