Assam Floods: Boat carrying flood-hit people capsizes, 3 missing
Floods have wreaked havoc on Assam this year, with 18.95 lakh people affected across 28 districts and 55 people killed as a result of the deluge and landslides.

Digital Desk: At least three children went missing after a boat carrying flood-affected people capsized in Assam's Hojai district on Saturday.

According to reports, a group of 24 villagers was moving to safety from inundated Islampur village late on Friday night when the boat hit, submerged a brick kiln, and capsized in the Raikota area.

"National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel rescued 21 people, while search activities for the three missing children are underway," Hojai Deputy Commissioner Anupam Choudhury told PTI.

He further urged residents not to risk going out in the dark in flood-stricken areas. People should contact the district administration if they want to relocate to a safer location. We'll take them away on NDRF and SDRF boats, "he stated. The Kopili River has flooded wide swaths of land, affecting around 55,150 residents in the district, which was previously hit hard by the first wave of floods earlier this year.

Notably, a total of 29,745 people have taken shelter in 47 relief camps in the district.

As per the data of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), another person was reported missing in a separate incident in Hojai on Friday. Moreover, on Friday, a person was reported missing in the Sonitpur district after a boat carrying four passengers collapsed. While a search for the missing person was underway, three of them were rescued.
