Assam Flood Reports: Flood relief effort expands to 28 districts, with more than 33 lakh affected

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has continued flood relief operations in Assam and Meghalaya, extensively using ALH aircraft.

Digital Desk: Over 33.03 lakh people in 28 districts continue to remain affected due to the natural calamity in the state, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) informed on Saturday.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has continued flood relief operations in Assam and Meghalaya, extensively using C-130, AN-32, Mi 17V5, Mi 171V, Mi17s, and ALH aircraft.

The fourth day has passed, and the IAF has flown more than 65 Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) missions and dropped 140 tonnes of relief material.

According to ASDMA, 117 people have died in the state this year due to floods and landslides; 100 died in floods alone, while the remaining 17 died due to landslides.

According to reports, at least ten people drowned in floodwaters in the last 24 hours, including four children.

8.76 lakh people have been affected in the Barpeta district alone, followed by 5.08 lakh in Nagaon, 4.01 lakh in Kamrup, 2.76 lakh in Cachar, 2.16 in Karimganj, and 1.84 lakh in Dhubri, and 1.70 lakh in Assam's Darrang district.

Notably, 3,510 villages under the state's 93 revenue circles, as well as nearly 91,700 hectares of cropland, are still under water.

2,65,788 flood-affected people are still camped in 717 relief centres set up by the administration of the state's 22 districts.

The state government has deployed two drones in Silchar, Cachar district, to conduct flood inundation mapping and deliver relief materials to inaccessible areas.

85.2 MT of goods, including packaged drinking water and rice, were airlifted from Guwahati and Jorhat to Silchar.

Personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), SDRF, Fire and Emergency personnel, the Police Force, and AAPDA MITRA Volunteers assist district administrations with rescue operations and relief distributions.

However, the ASDMA previously reported that many areas in the Nagaon district's Raha revenue circle are still under water.

The flood situation in the Kampur area of Assam's Nagaon district has improved slightly, but many areas within the Kampur revenue circle remain under water.
